Self-storage tips

selfsotrageWhile it is true that self-storage containers are affordable, it is important to learn how you can optimize their use. Otherwise, you will find that you are paying for more containers or space than you actually need. Here are some great self-storage tips to observe:

  • Furniture pieces should be wrapped with moving pads, blankets or paper pads.
  • Make a list of the items you will store to help choose the container size that will most closely fit your needs.
  • Think about how frequently you will need to access your storage container. If you have frequent access needs, you may want to keep the container on your property. If access will be seldom (once a month or less), consider having your container stored at our secure warehouse.
  • Your portable storage container has a secure latch mechanism. You will need to obtain your own personal, heavy-duty lock. These are available from us if needed.
  • If possible, use boxes of uniform size. It will make stacking easier while optimizing space.
  • Wrap fragile items with bubble-wrap. Small fragile items should be wrapped properly (see packing tips) and placed in boxes.
  • Label boxes for easier identification of items.
  • When stacking, place the heavier boxes on the bottom. This makes for easier handling and helps to minimize damage.
  • If you have items that you may need to remove and replace often, make sure that they are the most easily accessible.
